The IFES world map has been updated for our 60th birthday celebrations, using the Peters Projection. This is an area acurate map and is coloured to show the 12 IFES regions. The printable map details all the world's countries and territories, and the large printed poster also gives the capital cities.
equal area projection
Traditional map projections, such as the one IFES used in the past, were designed for navigational use. They often exaggerate the size of high latitude countries (such as Canada and Russia) and make tropical regions (such as Central America, Southern India, and most of Africa) appear much smaller by comparison. The adoption of these maps for reference has shaped the way that the world is perceived.
IFES has chosen to start using the Peters Projection on its printed materials. This map was the work of Arno Peters (a German historian) and shows all areas according to their actual size. It accurately portrays countries' proportions, sizes and positions. We pray this accuracy will benefit understanding and communication within the IFES fellowship.
