Femi B Adeleye is Associate General Secretary for Partnership and Collaboration with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students
Femi is from Nigeria. He grew up attending a Baptist church and gave his life to Christ at the age of 13 while in high school. Having been active as a student leader in the Nigeria Fellowship of Evangelical Students (NIFES) while at university in Ahmadu Bello University in Kano, Femi joined the NIFES staff team as a travelling secretary in 1980.
On completion of an MA in Christian History and Theology at Wheaton College, USA in 1986, Femi then served for 18 months as campus staff with the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) USA in Chicago. During that time, he pioneered evangelistic outreach to international students in Chicago and built bridges for partnership with local churches to strengthen the student ministry.
Femi was then invited to return to Nigeria as National Director of NIFES – a position which he held until 1993 when, in preparation for joining the IFES regional staff team in English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa (EPSA), Femi spent a year studying for an MTh at the Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non-Western World in Edinburgh, Scotland. On completion of his study, Femi returned to Nigeria and served as Regional Training Secretary until 2001 when he succeeded David Zac Niringiye as IFES Regional Secretary for EPSA.
In 1998 Femi and his family had moved to Harare, Zimbabwe to support the ministry in Southern Africa. In November 2007, however, they relocated to Accra, Ghana as Harare had become untenable due to the local political situation.
Femi is married to Affy who serves on the IFES EPSA regional team as co-ordinator of the HIV/Aids awareness programme. They have four children, two of whom are studying at university in North America while the younger two attend school in Kenya. Femi is also a Langham Scholar at the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture in Akropong, and helps with promoting Biblical Preaching in Africa. Femi is the author of Preachers of a Different Gospel and Let No Man Despise Your Youth.
